The extinguishing effect of Novec 1230 in stationary fire extinguishing systems is due to a homogeneous inhibition (disruption of the combustion chain reaction). The molecule is not electrically conductive. With a global warming potential (CO2 equivalent) of 1, it has the lowest value of all currently approved chemical extinguishing agents and disintegrates within a few days under solar radiation.
